Christmas and the New Year are at the doorstep, so I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you all for visiting this blog to keep in touch with what’s going on in the mobile world and to get some tips to make the most out of your device(s). It has been a pleasure for me to post these articles and tips and I will continue doing so. This blog has all been about Windows Mobile since the beginning. With the upcoming year, I plan to cover the Android platform as well. That will depend on whether I can afford an Android based device. You would think that an open source platform would be cheaper. Nowadays,it’s kind of hard to live up to your passion. The iPhone remains out of my reach, but that does not mean that I would not like to cover it as well. I’ve have made every possible effort to acquire new Windows Mobile-based devices. But it will be difficult to keep it going. However, I do intend to purchase Google Nexus (if it’s real) once it reaches Mauritian shores.
I think you deserve to know why I decided to cover these two platforms and not include the iPhone.
First, Windows Mobile and Android have many in common. Hardware-wise, they are both made by HTC. Motorola will be just like Nokia. Building devices that runs on software giants products. HTC has made great moves in building great devices based on Windows Mobile and Android. These devices look cool and the HTC Sense UI is awesome. In the long run, these two platforms will benefit upon HTCs vision. The iPhone, I believe, has revolutionized the mobile market. But Apple has too much control on the phone. Already, the developer community is focused on the Android platform. The latter is an open source platform and most, if not all, were initially, Windows Mobile developers. I think by now you have my point. With Microsoft working hard on Windows Mobile 7, you can expect That Microsoft will gain back those developers who will spend there time on developing cool products on both platform at the expense of the iPhone.
I do not think I’m naive. Yes, Windows Mobile will survive. Google’s Android is great. The iPhone is just one product. Apple’s products throughout history have always been just one proprietary product. It just seems that they have not learnt there lesson. They bullied Microsoft in the past only to have Bill Gates inject some millions to save them. To Apple, I just have to say –enjoy it as it won’t last long. Steve Jobs knows it. He probably won’t be here to introduce Bill Gates to a Booing crowd again.
To Google I’ll say welcome to the mobile world. Just play it fair.
To Microsoft, I’ll say I’m waiting impatiently for Windows Mobile 7. Bear in mind that you are not alone in the mobile world and Google is your partner.
To Apple, I’ll say you are being unfair. Lower your prices and open up to the world.
To all of you out there: Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2010.
